First the squishyness. I had that problem in recent games, too. Pre6 you are really easy to kill, but with your cougarform it is okay. I am thibking about not changing the masteries but changing my yellows to armor again. That will hurt my damageoutput for sure, but I can take more damage, even though you have to play careful.
The Itembuild: Indeed, Nidalee as Ap in General is squishy, bu the enemies should not focus you this much. The thing is, with Nidalee you are not this often in the frontline, moreover, you should never be. The best distance is between the maxrange and AA-range. In your cougarform you can flee through bushes pretty easily. Also you can build Rylais which makes you combined with Athenes and/or Mikaels at least a little bit tanky. Against really much AD you can think about an Frozen Heart.
But I diagree with you about Archangels Staff and Lichbane. They do not make you this much tankier, with Athenes your Mana should be almost fine, and I consider Lichbane not this useful. In the Human form Lichbane is almost useless because you want to throw your spears at maxrange and do not get near in AA range, and after the other ablities it also barely makes sense. In cougarform Lichbane is okay, but you do not use the cougar so often, and when, for escaping. That is why I do not think Lichbane is necessary.
Also I usually love to build the tear, but on Nidalee I just hate it. I think, compared to the chalice the tear is weak. As Nidalee i want to fulfill my supporterrole and build the typical Ward- and golditems. But after that, I want to catch up to the AP-Carry as fast as possible. The chalice helps you on the lane as supporter, and Athenes does not cost this much, when you have the Chalice already. With this my Manaproblems are nearly solved so I can rush rabadons to increase my damage.
Hi, i recently tried to play some aggressive AP support champions like Nidalee or Zyra. So here's what i noticed reading your build:
When I play Nidalee support, I use a 0/13/17 build. Which may seem weird, but i definitely need some durability, which you don't have. You also have no armor runes. So I guess you must be very squishy, and a joke for the enemy AD Carry. If you fight Ashe for instance, and you get her first crit shot + a volley + ignite: you die! I agree with all you said about the pros and cons. But lategame, Nidalee gets so squishy as AP support! Personally, I wouldn't play that kind of nidalee at high elo. But she's fine for low level games I guess. My items list:
Philosopher's Stone/Sorcerer's shoes
Doran's ring/Archangel's Staff/Lich Bane. Then it depends.
I insist on the fact that I only play her like this because I have played support champions and watched my team feed too often... so i had to "support/carry" in a sense. (I'm still working on this build)
You are right, Morello is a better alternative to one of the items then Deathfiregrasp, but I think, Morello is a lategmaechoice when the enemy team has to much heal or if their AC has to much Lifesteal. Thank you for your feedback ^_^
That is the deal with Nidalee Support, what also applies to Lux or Zyra support: You do not build like an Aura-stacking Taric or Sona, you build like an second AP-Carry.
The Problem of Auras on Nidalee is that you are most of the time not in the fight but at distance healing your ADC and trying to throw spears at maxrange. Thats is why Abyssal or just Aegis do not make sense, nowadays junglers or even toplaners like to build Aegis, most of the midlaners build abyssal so that is not a big problem at all.
I also recommended Micaels' Crucible, and very nice Supportitem which is incredible strong when your ADC is fed, what he should be after the laningphase.

Im still testing around, but it seems to work ^_^
