IntroductionGreetings im Fhatality and this is my fourth guide so far and I wanted to make a guide on Olaf because he is definitely in my top 5 favourite champions and I really like him. Iv'e already made a Irelia, Malphite and a crap Pantheon guide so if you want to check them out then please do and tell me what you think about them and what to improve, anyway I was about 1500 elo in season 2 and I main Top.
I've been playing Olaf lots and I have learned more and more about him through the games I have been playing with him so I hope you like my short guide on Olaf and at least learn something you probably wont but anyway Olaf is a tanky champion when builded right that can deal lots of damage as well with his true damage E especially in the early levels he also has his Q which can be picked up after thrown and reduces the cool down by quite allot so they won't get away from him he also has sustain from his W and a very good ult which causes him to be immune to CC.
Why Play Olaf?First of all I think I should start this guide by telling you the good and bad things about Olaf so here they are keep in mind they might not be all of them.
- Has true damage on his E.
- He has sustain on his W.
- He is immune to CC with his ult.
- He has a cool skins.
- He is Naturally tanky.
- Very good late game.
- Good poke with Q early.
- Doesn't have any CC besides skillshot Q.
- Easily kited without ult.
- Have to land Q for secured kills.
- He hasn't got no gap closer.
So like I said this might not be all of them but I tried my best to do the most I can through the games I have played and what I have learned from them.
MasteriesThere are many Mastery pages that I like to use on Olaf like utility Olaf where you have to spell vamp and life steal and stuff. People like to go full offensive and dominate in lane but I prefer to be the more tanky Olaf with more defensive because I like to tank and it gives you more stats from W.
I wouldn't recommend using offensive Masteries because the defensive masteries are really good and I prefer Olaf a tank If you want to be more offensive and deal more damage at the start and against a very easy lane or something I would recommend using the ones below but the downside is that you lose a bit of tankiness.
RunesJust like the Masteries there can be many rune pages that you can have on Olaf like tanky Olaf, offensive Olaf or Movement Speed or even Cooldown based Olaf on runes but like you can see I like to go more offensive on olaf with 15 AD on Quints and Marks because you already have the defensive from your masteries also your Glyphs and Seals another option for Quints and Marks could be Armour Pen but I wouldn't because of the nerf.
Like I said before if you don't like the full offensive runes you can go for some Movement Speed like the rune page below. This will help you if you are against someone who is very mobile or fast so you can stick to them or if they are ranged and a real pain to deal with because they are kiting you.
Early GameEarly game is really simple just focus on last hitting and harassing your opponent. You should of started with Flask, Ward and a Health Potion or Cloth Armour because you are already fast at the start with about 350 movement speed and you should of leveled your axe first. Make sure you land most of your axes because it costs 55 mana and he can be mana hungry if you spam them so don't. To harass the enemy wait until they go for a last hit and then Q and E then this should do quite allot of damage early levels and they won't be able to win the trade. If your opponent harasses you then just W it all back and remember you can use your axe when it is activated and get health back bacause it gives spell vamp two.
First back I would recommend getting a Giants Belt becuase it is really effective becuase you are really tanky now and it increases the damage on your W for easy kills but if you are behind you can grab something like a Vampric Scepter for the sustain and build that into a zekes for later on or you can just get one or two Doran's Shields against an AD opponent or one or two Doran's Blades against an AP opponent and don't forget always ask your jungler for ganks and always plant wards around the area to prevent ganks and dieing.
Mid GameBy mid game you should have got your Warmogs Armor finished and a Kindlegem and a Brutalizer or Hexdrinker. Mid game is where you start to go into other lanes and stop the laning phase and have a few team fights and a couple of 3v3 and stuff. So remember to stick with your team most of the time and try to start little fight because you are most likely going to win them because you are very tanky that can take allot of damage for your team, if you are not with your team then you should be pushing your lane or any other lanes because it isn't that risky with Olaf because you have your ult and ghost also if they start a fight 5v4 on your team you can just teleport to then so then it's a 5v5 and your team won't lose also if other lanes are losing hard then you might want to gank them or even teleport gank them from being in a bush or something.
Late GameLate game is very similar to mid game but you will have allot more gold do you should have items like Boots, Warmogs Armor, Black Cleaver or Maw of Malmortilus, Sunfire Cape and possibly more items as well depends how fed you are. So like I said late game is similar to mid because there will be team fight as well but late game there will be allot more so like mid game make sure you keep a look out for your team and when to teleport if you are split pushing or just taking the jungle or just recalled. So the items that you should have are really helpful and allow you to tank them very hard because you have allot of health from like all of your items accept boots of course also remember to keep warding and warding the more wards you have the more vision you have and that will help you to catch people of guard and have a greater advantage in team fights.
Team FightsTeam fights can be very one sided it depends on who your focusing or if anyone got fed during the laning phase, Olaf is very good in team fights anyway he has the ability to do lots in a fight but I would only worry about 2 things and they are what you can do in a fight depending on there team and who is fed or not one of them is two protect your AD carry if they are fed because you want them to deal as much damage as possible in the fight from any champ that is a problem on there team or you can just rush in the middle of there team and own everyone because of your ult and ghost and kill the people who are the most dangerous targets.
ReplaysSince season 3 I have been gathering different games against different champions with all the new items and stuff so you can have a good idea of how to play against them in the new season.
If you want more information about items that you can get to counter the opponent you are against or what to get against an Olaf if you are Olaf vs Olaf on normal or something and there are also different Olaf guides that you can check out then go to http://www.championselect.net/champ/Olaf
Olaf's LoreOn an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar – a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea.
His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from "friendly" waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the "finger wagglers" that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly – and unwittingly – in their thrall.
"Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason."
Final CommentsI hoped you like my guide on Olaf because he is my favourite champion and I have learned lots about him and I hope you have learned something from my guide as well and found it a helpful also remember what you have to build against AP and AD and what to do early game, mid game and late game also team fights because it will help out. If you have anything to say about my guide then please say in the comment section so I can improve on it and also if my punctuation and grammar is wrong or a sentence doesn't make sense then I can change that. Anyway thanks for looking at my guide and good luck out there playing Olaf.
I will be adding more to this guide when I have the time so please check it out again in the future.
