@Radbeard: Regardless of you agreeing or disagreeing let's point out the obvious for a moment. You clearly didn't thoroughly read his guide. You listed two items for MR that he lists to build and explains why. He says two times in his guide that. Black Cleaver is NECESSARY...just point that out there. So although you say you disagree. the only point you truly have is Iceborne Gauntlet. Therefore you actually agree with his build and say Iceborne is another item you can build in required situations. That is all i'm seeing from your comment.
I have recently played close to 50 games as vi so far and I dont agree with your build.
Black cleaver is Really good and if you can win your lane with it then absolutely build it first. If your jungling build it first. However, some top lanes need you to stack armor, like riven, wukong and darius and your dmg out put is high enough with base skill dmg so you can build armor like crazy and really dominate your lane. For that reason I have really liked building frozen gauntlet. It gives you everything you need to really stay in a fight, cooldowns, armor and dmg.
If the other team is high ap dmg rather than physical the frozen gauntlet wont work. I prefer tankier builds since she has such high dmg with black cleaver so I would suggest runic bulwark if your team doesn't have one and if not that then spirit visage, mercurial scimitar, or maw of malmortius.
Regardless the 3 greatest items are definitely black cleaver, Frozen gauntlet and runic bulwark.
Just doing some basic calculations on armor pen vs ad runes. Assuming level 10 vi with a brutalizer and masteries from this guide (~125 AD before runes), and an opponent with 100 armor.
ArPen Runes (reds and quints):
(100 * .8 )* .98) - 5 - 19 = 54.4 armor after penetration
125 * (100/(100+54.4)) = ~81 damage AA
AD Runes (reds and quints):
(100 * .8 )* .98) - 5 = 73.4 armor after penetration
140 * (100/(100+73.4)) = ~81 damage AA
So with a 100 armor enemy its pretty even. Heres everything with a 70 armor opponent (chain vest only):
ArPen Runes (reds and quints):
(70 * .8 )* .98) - 5 - 19 = 30.9 armor after penetration
125 * (100/(100+30.9)) = ~95.5 damage AA
AD Runes (reds and quints):
(70 * .8 )* .98) - 5 = 49.9 armor after penetration
140 * (100/(100+49.9)) = ~93.4 damage AA
Basically what this means is that the flat armor penetration runes are more effective early due to the way penetration is calculated now. Percent armor reduction (Vi's W and black cleaver proc) is calculated first, and the more you have, the less effective the flat penetration is. If you're going to be building black cleaver, and the opponents are building at least 1 armor item, then AD runes will be better. They also have the advantage of helping with last hits.
Also I'm not overly impressed with this guide. No offense to xspecial, but nothing is explained particularly well or in depth, and very few items or matchups are explored. The commentary is good and everything, but I would head to an approved guide to truly understand whats going on with Vi.
@chailbreak-EU I must have missed the time where xpecial and dyrus switched positions and Xpecial became the top lane master and not support pro...
Blind followers of professionals never get anywhere. You cannot use this guide to move up in ELO if you aren't at the ELO where there is the "gentlemans" pact for laning which is usually 1800+
I personally laugh when I see kids in my ELO (around 1200-meh what of it) trying to follow solomid guides to the exact point like they are the testaments of god himself, because they more often than not lose their lane and blame jungler.
However I find Xpecial's new hobby of writing top lane guides lacking in quality and depth with every guide. The most basic information and cookie cutter cut and paste LoL.com recommended crap.
There is no matchup section *AGAIN*, which c'mon, the most important part of a Solo Lane is the matchups. -.- He doesn't even say like "Pick Vi if they pick *lists 3 champions*" or "Don't pick Vi if *list 3 champions*"
Thx xpecial. ur build is really good, but i think 21/9/0 masteries are better:>. Btw zephyr is really good item for Vi :D. This item is giving nice stats for Vi: cool down reduction, movement speed, attack speed and some dmg.
