Introduction
Hello, I've been playing League for about a year now, and through most of that time I have played Olaf. Now, I am not some 2k elo player, but I do well with Olaf, and have played him enough to know what to build, and how to play him. He is a very versatile champ who can either go jungle or top lane, and excel at both. He is played in low elo, high elo, and even tournaments. He's a great champ with a pretty amazing kit, so I highly recommend getting him, and hopefully this guide will help you become a better Olaf player.Pros:
He can get very tanky
Does true damage with

You can continuously slow people with your

Ignores all cc with

Great anti-carry
He's a viking bro
Cons:
Gold dependent
True damage hurts you
You need to land your axes and pick them up because of the cd
Summoner Spells
![summoners/ignite.png [summoners/ignite.png]](guide/summoners/ignite.png)
![summoners/ghost.png [summoners/ghost.png]](guide/summoners/ghost.png)
Explanation:
Great summoner overall, allows you to go all in and ensure the kill.
This goes great with
and allows you to chase anyone down, or escape.Viable Summoners:
Overall the best summoner spell in the game, but
is better for Olaf in most situations.
You have your
so this isn't really needed.
Eh, good if they have a lot of globals, but dont be lazy and just walk.
Okay I've tried this before, and ![skills/olaf/r.png [skills/olaf/r.png]](guide/skills/olaf/r.png)

is a funny combination.

Skill Order
In most situations I like to max out
because i usually have a cleaver early game, followed up with
and finally
Upgrade your
whenever you can of course. The reason i max
first is because of the poke and clearing you can do in lane, and by mid game i will have a few points in
so your damage will be good, another reason for maxing
first is because you will not do damage to yourself early on, but that is not the case with
. By the time you have your
maxed you will have become quite tanky, so you wont have to worry about the damage you do to yourself. You can max
or
if you want, depending on the opponent.
Skills
Passive: Berserker RageExplanation:
So most people when near death would tend to be weaker? Well that is not the case for Olaf, this great passive allows him to have 1% increased attack speed for every 1% of missing health. This is why he does not need to build attack speed and can afford to build tanky. Works well with your
because now you will hit even faster and regain your health.
Q: UndertowExplanation:
This is a great skill because it not only does a lot of damage, but it also allows you to pick your axe back up, throw it again, and catch up to people ensuring the kill. You can poke people in lane to the point where they have to leave, or you can go in and finish them. If you arent able to farm you can use this as well, but remember to use your
for the life steal and AD.
W: Vicious StrikesExplanation:
Like mentioned above, you can use this before
to maximize profit. Really good skill to help clear minion waves, and give you that extra bit of AD to help your ![skills/olaf/q.png [skills/olaf/q.png]](guide/skills/olaf/q.png)
E: Reckless SwingExplanation:
This is an amazing skill early game, but tends to fall off late game just because everyone else will be tankier. Does a good amount of true damage, but you will also be hurt, and this is why we build health on Olaf. If you max this first you should build cdr so you can use it as much as possible in fights.
R: RagnarokExplanation:
One of the best ultimate's in the game; you ignore all cc for 6 seconds, and something important to remember is that it was 8 seconds but you had to cast it before you got cc'd, but now it is 6 seconds, but you can cast it while you are being cc'd which is much better. Use this to run into team fights kill their carry, and get it. Also a great escape mechanism, and if you have ghost and this, well you have just become the hardest person to kill in the game.
Early Game
I usually start with flash, pots, and a ward. Just try and freeze the lane early on, because if you push too hard before you're level 6 you will be an easy gank for the enemy jungle. If they have someone that you cant win trades with then just play passively, and farm with your
. Play it safe until you get to level 6, because at the point you can play more aggressively, and go all in for a kill if you want. Just remember the basics, and last hit. It's important to have a high cs as olaf.
Mid Game
At this point you've hopefully gotten your first two big items. If you've played aggressively, and taken down your the turret, you can roam and help out other lanes. If you haven't played aggressively then keep farming, and assisting your team with objectives. Mid game is that nice stage where Olaf is really strong and ad carries aren't, so make big plays during mid game, to give yourself an easier late game. This is also the point where you start grouping for team fights.
Late Game
You've reached late game, and you've gotten most your items. While some other bruisers fall of late game, you do not. Late game is all about not messing up, stay with your team, because both teams will be fighting for objectives. At this point you cannot destroy ad carries like you could mid game, so you have to be careful during team fights. You aren't the main initiator, so wait for the initiation, and go in.
Team Fights
You can do two things in a team fight; either go in and kill their ad carry, or peel and protect your ad carry. If you're ahead go for the first option, but if you;re behind go for the second. Just remember as manly as you are you shouldn't start fights, after the initiation has begun you go in, pop ghost and
and zone out their ad carry and kill him, once you've done that you help peel for yours. Just remember to land your
so that you can pick it up as fast as possible to maximize damage, and hit as many
as you can, and dont forget about your
, it could make the difference. Team fights are where you shine, so dont' be afraid to go man mode.
Jungling
S3 Olaf has one of the best clear times, and is being used more often in jungle than before, so if you need a guide the general will probably make one soon. (Hopefully)
Final Comments
I hope you take the time to read this guide, and give it a chance, I've played Olaf more than any other champion, and I feel he is one of the strongest champions in the game if used correctly, not to mention he is immensely fun to use.Olaf is a viking who throws axes, axes that can cause lightning, very, very frightening! He ignores cc like a man. When he's about to die he hits even faster, is that biologically possible? Probably not but it's Olaf. He drinks graggy ice and says bro a lot. Other champions wear armor, you know what Olaf wears? A lime green shirt. If you want to sum up what Olaf is well, he's a bro who goes man mode, and wins.
I really hope you guys enjoyed this guide, and if you have any questions, or suggestions feel free to share.

Still a good option, but with the zekes nerf I dont build it as much.
Good item if you're jungling
15/0 Vayne? Yeah, that is the only time i would get this.
I like this item, and if you dont build atmogs you can buy this.
Good item, if you need more armor, and are mana deprived.
No chasing power? You can get this.
I prefer it on someone like malphite, there are better options than this.
I prefer qss over this because of the active.
Team player good guy Olaf
I would buy this if you are going against double AP, and build into maw
Need more damages? Add this if you need it.
Good on other bruisers, but not that cost efficient on Olaf.
You aren't trying to be a wannabee adc.
Olaf hits harder when he's dying so this isn't really needed.
Not cost efficient.
