Introduction
Hey, my name is Fiftycal and this is my first guide! I've chosen to make a jungle guide for Vi due to the rapid likings I've grown for this champ. This guide should work for the new players and veterans alike.
Pros and cons
Pros:+Good gap-closer
+Fast jungler
+Good early ganks
+Reasonably brute early game
+Can ult through the front line to reach carries
+Can push lanes fast
+Good burst damage
Cons:
-Susceptible to CC
-Easily kiteable after burning cooldowns
-Her Q gap-closer is a charged spell as well as a skill shot
Masteries
I prefer 21/9/0 for this guide due to the fact that it will speed up your jungle and enables you to gank sooner. Vi's passive will grant you a shield (10% of her max health) which generaly gives you that addedbeef that allows you to gank and return to the jungle.
Runes
Marks:
Greater Mark of Attack Damage
Your
grants 20% armpen so I prefer Attack Damage marks for the better early damage.Seals:
Greater Seal of Armor
Since this is a jungle guide armor is your best bet for seals. These runes combined with your
give you a good sustain for jungling.Glyphs:
Greater Glyph of Attack Speed
These glyphs are more focused on early game and increase your jungling speed slightly by increasing the proc speed of your
![skills/vi/w.png [skills/vi/w.png]](guide/skills/vi/w.png)
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
MR glyphs work well in this spot for obvious reasons. Glyphs mainly focus on early game advantage so I prefer Attack Speed over MR as I usually build MR into my items early on.
Quintessence:
Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
Taking almost 9 extra AD into the jungle early game puts me into gank mode a lot faster and is a great addon for
damage!
Summoner Spells
![summoners/flash.png [summoners/flash.png]](guide/summoners/flash.png)
![summoners/smite.png [summoners/smite.png]](guide/summoners/smite.png)
Explanation:
I used to run with Ghost on Vi for the chase relying on my Q as an escape but the repercussions were too high. Having flash on Vi is Vi-tal for escapes and initiation. Using Flash and Q simultaneously will close a huge gap and makes for a more reliable escape.
It is very possible to jungle Vi without Smite but why would you do that?! You're a jungler and your team relies on your Smite for Baron and Dragon. You keep hearing me talk about early ganks and this is a huge factor in it. Take Smite!
Skills
Passive: Blast ShieldExplanation:
The passive is great when it's up but has a fairly lengthy cooldown. Don't fully rely on it to proc multiple times in a single fight early game.
Q: Vault BreakerExplanation:
Your main Gapcloser. The knock-up is great but the cooldown is long. Being a skillshot makes it tough to land at range but can be used as a great tool for moving around the jungling and escaping. Combining this right after you land your ult and one
will make it more difficult for your enemy to escape.
W: Denting BlowsExplanation:
The armpen, attack speed and bonus damage is excellent for early jungling. Spending your first point in this is crucial. Also a very good tank melter.
E: Excessive ForceExplanation:
Excellent AOE for jungling and decent poke from a distance if positioned correctly. Can demolish towers pretty fast.
R: Assault and batteryExplanation:
I use Vi's ult for engaging 90% of the time for two reasons.
1) Gap-closer and knocks back whoever you pass through.
2) It's much easier to land your
on your target after you ult to create added CC.Of course it's good as a finisher but I try not to waste it on enemies that are low unless I know they are going to get away or if I need the added damage/cc to save myself or a team member.
Jungling
I'll go over a few general tips for new junglers before I discuss Vi's jungle.General tips:
Keeping track of buffs and Dragon/Baron. For a full list of spawn timers and general jungle explenation go to http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Jungling
Red/Blue buff: 5 min
Dragon: 6 min
Baron: 7 min
Don't get too caught up in jungling. If a lane needs you be there to help them out. Notice which lanes are being bullied and adjust your jungling to better suit your ganking for that lane.
Approaching lanes for ganks: Ask your laners if the lanes are warded and where. Novice junglers will mostly gank from the river and get spotted by wards. Lane ganks are your best choice if you're not sure whether the river or tri-bushes are warded or not. Avoid the river/tri bush and approach the gank from behind your turret for a "Lane gank"
Vi Jungling tips
I'll go over my Vi specific jungle routine this area.
Vi-tal Starting:
Start with
![skills/vi/w.png [skills/vi/w.png]](guide/skills/vi/w.png)
1:40 Wolves
1:55 Blue (Have your teammates bruise blue and do NOT use your SMITE, save for red) now learn
Head STRAIGHT to red, beat it up and use your smite for the last hit. You should only have to use 2 MAYBE 3 pots between wolves and your gank. Learn
and look for the lane that's pushed furthest. If the lane closest to your red buff is in the middle (Even sides) I would suggest ganking that lane. Check the enemy supports items to see if they have placed any wards. If not, gank from the river, if so, lane gank!Jungle farming:
Aside from ganking, jungling for Vi is very similar to Lee Sin's jungling. Use your
to hop walls and beat down creeps. Vi can usually solo dragon around level 6 or shortly after, depending on your items and if Smite is up or not. Keep track of the enemy team and try to save your
to use as an escape if they show up.
Item Builds
Gonna make this short and sweet, as I hope you all have a general understanding of champion roles.
and
for initial purchase. If you follow my Vi-tal route use
when you start blue and a 2nd (maybe) 3rd for red.
and
first trip back. Nice mana/hp regen and good damage. (No boots yet, I rely on
to close the gap.Early-Mid game:
If you need the early HP
If your team is doing well
If you need the early MR
If you build ![items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png [items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png]](guide/items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png)
If you decide not to build ![items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png [items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png]](guide/items/spirit-of-the-ancient-golem.png)
Mid-Late game:
![items/maw-of-malmortius.png [items/maw-of-malmortius.png]](guide/items/maw-of-malmortius.png)
I love the chunkiness this gives Vi as most team fights you will be right in the middle!
If you're being focused down
Extra armor and chase potential
Extra damage and MR (Faster AS = more
procs)
I would build this if our team had a tank and needed the damage.
Team Fights
As Vi I do my best to balance survival and damage. In a team fight your target should be the AD or AP carry on the enemies team, if they're not a threat focus on the main threat. I generally initiate with
and if timed correctly land one
before
to increase the CC on your target. Landing this combo will take use of the minor yet misused stun that is still applied to your target after they hit the ground, it's about an extra .5 sec or so but why waste it? General tips:
Do your best to position yourself so you hit as many enemy champs as you can when you
. If you do not initiate with your ult then save it for the extra CC that you could use to save yourself or a teammat eand don't use you it on an enemy that is under the effects of a CC. Every bit helps!Burst damage:
Vi can destroy carries even when you balance her survival and damage.
Final Comments
I hope this guide helps you whether you use the exact builds I've given or altered them to your taste. I've done my best to keep this guide:
