IntroductionHello, and welcome to the support nunu guide!
This guide will give you great insight into nunu and his buddy Willump!
Nunu is a very versitile niche champion. He is definantly my favorite and most played champion, I have played nunu in every way you can expect, I've played Support, Jungle, AP caster solo top, Attackspeed with proc items(not good haha) and pure tank. While alot of people think nunu is just a crappy champ with a bad ult and is of no use to the team, they couldn't be anymore wrong. Nunu's easily one of the most rediculous champs, and I'm here to show you why I love him!
Doesn't need any items to be effective
crazy AS/MS steriod
huge damage ultimate
Falls off later in the game
No sustain for latemate
Ulti is very hard to get off right
Item BuildsStarting Items:
Against Heavy AD:
Against Heavy AP: that new items Locket of the solari(not in the guide database yet)
other good items to consider:
a strong item to get, it gives your team armor mr and a bit of damage, works well especially if you a strong AD bruiser top or in the jungle.
really nice gimmick item.
really good item to turn your philo stone into, such a great item for intiating.
good way to heal bait people with your Q and some minions/neutral creeps
nunu's ult scales 2.5:1 for AP so this works good to give your ult a bang if the enemy has little to no cc
if your AP carry needs someone to stack with, Ill tell you getting a full ult off will bring you from almost dead to full if your AP carry has this too
if they have frozen heart
MasteriesI use 0/9/21 for increased HP in defensive tree, and the increased heal with summoner heal, and a bit more durability in lane.
21 in utility for increased ward vision, more gold/exp, reduced CD's and Reduced Summoners.
You can also take a few points out of utility and put it into the increased movespeed above 70% hp for increased roaming early game but I prefer to just have the cooldowns. feel free to experiment and tweak the build to fit your playstyle.
RunesMpen Reds: because you're going to be harassing alot with your E in lane so why not make it hit harder? you can go with HP or MP or Armor/mres or something here. I just prefer the extra damage you get out of it.
HP Per Level Yellows: They stack really well with the new masteries and i just love having all the hp i can. These also work well if youre facing more AP than AD
Alternative: Armor, works well when exchanging with AD carries in bottom lane.
Mres Blues: Because AP chars tend not to hurt as bad till later and this will help with the end game burst their AP carries are dishing out. lately I've been testing out flat MR because sona gets played alot and her magic damage hurts early game, and also corki does half magic damage and this helps mitigate some of this harrass.
Movespeed quints: Nunu is an all over the place with bloodboil and this just adds to it, this game has become mainly about mobility, if you can run the fastest youre probably doin the best. I find these work so well while roaming, i can ward red bush, and the ramp to mid and be back to my lane in time for the next wave of creeps. these are probably my most used quints on all champions, i highly suggest getting these if you dont have them yet.
I usually go with Heal/Flash for the double heal baits with my Q+summoner heal. Nunu doesnt have any sustain for his lane partner so this helps quite a bit with that. Flash for escaping/initiating with your E.
A trick I use alot is if I get engaged on, I flash to the nearest brush and start channeling my ult(you cannot see nunus ult channeling if you cannot see him). When they run in to kill me they're slowed while my team swarms them and my ult almost always gets a full channel off this way.
CV is also a good summoner spell to use, I just find it really weak since the nerf and I prefer to just roam the map and ward shit, easier and heal is so strong right now.
Nunu can cast a spell for free after 7 attacks.
This spell is much more useful in the jungle because in the lane you wont ever be auto attacking minions, its nice when your helping gank to get off free iceblasts when your low on mana tho.
Takes a bite out of target minion, dealing 400/525/650/775/900 damage and restoring 125 / 200 / 275 / 350 / 425 (+100% of ability power) health.
Cooldown 35 / 30 / 25 / 20 / 15 seconds
Cost 60 mana
Again more of a jungling spell, this is why we level this last, the only times you use this is when your on dragon/baron/buffs, or u need a heal in a pinch. Make sure if you're using your Q to heal in lane you're only taking heals off the Tank creep(consume wont 1shot it) or if you HAVE to heal with it, make sure you take a ranged creep(worth less gold so your lane mate loses less farm)
W: Blood Boil
Increases an allied unit's attack speed by 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65% and movement speed by 11 / 12.5 / 13 / 14.5 / 15% for 15 seconds. Nunu also gains the effects of Bloodboil if casted on an allied unit.
This spell works so well in the lane with your AD carry, it gives them 2 of the most important stats, AS and MS, both essential to AD's. It works SO well combined with your E, you slow the enemy AD and reduce their AS, and you increase your AD's AS, and MS. Such a strong steroid, Combine this with starks for 85% AS for your AD carry aswell as some nice ArP for them.
E: Ice Blast
Nunu throws a ball of ice at an enemy unit, dealing 85 / 130 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+100% of ability power) magic damage and slowing their movement speed by 20/30/40/50/60% and attack speed by 25% for 4 seconds.
Cooldown 6 seconds
Cost 75 / 85 / 95 / 105 / 115mana
This skill gives a really strong slow combined with a really strong attackspeed debuff, it works so well in the lane vs other AD carries, and it puts people at turtle speed. Lategame you will just be using this to debuff the kill target(usually AD first).
R: Absolute Zero
While channeling for 3 seconds, slows nearby enemy units' attack speed and movement speed. After channeling, enemies caught in the area are dealt 625 / 875 / 1125 (+250% of ability power) magic damage.
Cooldown 150 / 120 / 90seconds
While this skill looks INSANE on paper, you will almost NEVER get this off, atleast not the full duration, to increase you chances of getting a full ulti try casting it in bushes that the enemy is running into to, or are still close enuff to get hit by it. Another thing you need to realize about this spell is that once you start casting it you are the biggest threat on the team, so you WILL get a cc or 2 put on you to stop it(this is why BV is a core item). Feel free to experiment with this spell and try to get 2k damage ulti rollin on their whole team.
One of the best tricks you can do with your ult to bait people, is if you get caught flash into any nearby bush and just start channeling your ultimate and when they come to the bush to chase you BAM 1k damage on everyone that was in it, and its very unexpected.
USE this spell as an AOE slow, not as a huge damage move and you will find yourself MUCH SUCCESS
Skill OrderEarly game I normally start with Q and steal their blue wraith before heading to my lane. If you're not going to play aggressive then go with your W first.
I max W by 9 and E by 13, Q last always, and R when ever you can put a point into it. Your W gives you a recurve bow and a dagger worth of attackspeed AND 15% movespeed for you and your lanemate. This steriod is almost unmatched and thats why I max it first.
Early GameEarly game I normally ward the brush by their wraith camp. I almost always take their blue wraith regardless of which side of the map I'm on.
I choose to ward this brush for a few reasons, mainly because it shows where the jungle is at for the beggining of their jungle route, and it prevents me from getting ganked while I steal their blue wraith. Sometimes I also go and steal the big golem from their jungle if their golem is on bottom of the map.
Keep an eye on that ward you placed. If youre jungling vs someone who you know will start at blue, they will have to pass this ward to get to wraiths. If they never pass the ward you can expect 1 of 2 things to happen.
1. they are either counter jungling in your jungle. if this is is the case get your lane mates near the area to check for you and counter gank in the jungle with them.
2. the other jungler could be going for level 2 gank if they don't pass the ward.
Afterword I run back to my lane and ward for protection, where i place the ward depends on what side of the map you are on:
If you are on purple side ward here, it shows you if they are coming from river, or from tribush to gank your lane so it gives you vision the whole side of the lane and saves you alot.
If you are on blue side ward here, it lets you see them coming from their blue and from mid, so it gives you full protection on that side.
If they are pushing you back in your lane ward your lane brush. This prevents the enemy jungler from tryin to sneak into the lane and gank you.
Other than wards just make sure you are trying to zone the opposing laners and keep your lane partner up on farm. keep lane brush control, and always be ready to run to help your jungler. you and your ad will be able to get anywhere fast with bloodboil.
On your first recall try to get a philo stone and boots, Heart of gold will be your next goal, buy wards every chance you can. Get boots of lucidity so you can keep your E up almost 100% of the time.
Nunu is very strong vs ganks aswell, his slow basicly guarentees you wont get caught by someone ganking you, unless they have flash. just make sure you keep up the wards I talked about so you can get back if you see someone coming for you.
Mid GameMidgame you will have gotten a good ammount of gold with your Philo stone and Heart of gold. Your next goal should be a catalyst and a negatron, try to get BV as your first item every time because it protects your ultimate and forces the enemy to waste 2 cc on you every teamfight. Focus on helping your AD farm and keeping key parts of the map warded. If your Mid lane is having trouble just run over and ward for them, you are extremely fast and wont miss out much on exp.
Make sure youre keeping timers up on all of the buffs, Blue and red are 5minutes, dragon is 6minutes, and baron is 7minutes. Type it out when you kill a buff, or when you see the enemy kill a buff. If they kill dragon at 10:34 type out "Dragon 16:34" so your team knows when dragon will respawn. Same for blue's and red's, You kill blue at 2:10 it will respawn at 7:10. Typing it out lets people know you know what you're doing and helps them trust you.
Try to set up good ultimates, always make sure that if the person youre trying to kill has a silence or a stun or a knock up, make them waste it before casting your ult on them. You run really fast and you make then almost perma slowed with your E, so you can run in front of them and start casting your ult, forcing them to either run back into your other teammates or take the damage.
At this stage in the game you are at your strongest, you will be saving up for your banshees and helping your team get assists. Make sure you communicate with your AD because you need to be together almost all game, you are too strong together. Nunu protects his AD carry almost better than anyone with his perma slow and insane movespeed buff.
Make sure that you are buying oracles as soon as you feel comfortable. You rarely die since you are almost uncatchable and you will be able to keep it most of the game. Its really demoralizing watching a nunu truck by and kill the ward you just spent your last 75g to buy.
Late GameLategame is when Nunu tends to struggle, but honestly it doesn't really matter because late game is when AD champions really shine, and you give one of the best steroids for AD's in the game. As well as have crazy single target CC, a huge aoe slow, good mobility and a strong buff. good sustain if youre fighting around any minions or neutral creeps.
Roam around with your AD carry and toss out Ice balls on anyone dumb enough to get in range of you. your AD will be able to easily kill them since they'll be much faster. Don't forget to keep key map points warded at all times and keep your jungle clear of enemy wards. Try to bait the enemy team into the jungle and ult from bushes with your team near, Nunu rely's on his team alot.
Always be ready to do baron, try to pick off 1 or 2 of the enemy team and then do baron. Once you get baron push all lanes and try to fight. Don't let it go to waste, it gives you a serious advantage and will help you out alot. Always make sure you are slowing the kill target and keeping your AD buffed with bloodboil.
This is when you need to decide what your end game build should be, Are they heavy on AP? Pick up a Guardian angel and a spirit Visage. 2 cheap items that give you MR, Armor, Respawn, Increased sustain, and CDR.
Are they heavy on AD? turn your HoG into a Randuins and get a frozen heart. Nunu's E and ulti stack well with Frozen heart for insane Attackspeed Reduction.
Is your team got heavy AD? Pick up a starks to give them all 20% IaS, aswell as the bonus from your bloodboil. It gives you some good regen and the lifesteal is a good bonus.
Make sure you are always with your team and don't get caught, you are not strong by yourself. you will die easily without team support. Be careful and you will have a good game.
Team FightsIn teamfights you need to use your E on their AD carry so it slows their AS and they cant run from your team(without flash). JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR AD UP ON BLOODBOIL. Try to initate with your ulti in a bush, or get into a bush and start channeling it. Use your ulti to keep the other team slowed while your team pwns them.
Try to fight in cramped places where people are forced to run thru your ultimate to get to your teammates or escape. for example, tribush, any ramps, anywhere in the jungle where theres only 1 way to go, and always be in the front of your team.
Final CommentsAs for my final commments.. hmm just go out there and pwn ppl with the little guy and his yeti!
