Introduction
Keep in mind never stick to a guide 100% of the time. If they have 5 AP players, I don't think you need to get a sunfire ASAP, play smart and adapt, thats what makes a good player. Oh and map awareness.

After playing Shyvana for a pretty large amount of games in the jungle i'd like to impart some tips and knowledge.

She seems a little like Rumble 2.0 at the moment, so lets see what Riot does with her. But for right now she can dominate.
Overview
Strengths:
  • Quick jungle, 6:20~ level 6.
  • Fast movement speed for ganks/travel
  • Ult has a built in flash
  • Not mana based
  • Large AOE damage
  • Great in lane as well
  • High damage output
  • Bruiser

Weaknesses:
  • No sustain early game
  • If counter jungled in any way, don't expect to hit a quick 6
  • No slow or stun (which is somewhat made up for with your speed)
Masteries
These masteries give her increased damage which making her a little more tanky. Increased buff duration is quite useful as youll depend on Red for your slow early on.
Armor Pen
This is a for sure and there is no going around this. Early, mid or late game, armor penetration is amazing to have.

Armor
Armor is always amazing, but does not scale as well for mid and late game. Armor runes are solely for helping early on.

Attack Speed
Attack speed will help you sustain your passive effects. It also builds her rage to use her ultimate.
Summoner Spells
[summoners/smite.png]
Goes without saying.
[summoners/flash.png]
( This can be substituted with [summoners/exhaust.png], I have ran both and find exhaust very useful. But the utility of flash is just so high.

Skills
[skills/shyvana/p.png] Passive: Fury of the Dragonborn

Shyvana's melee attacks enhance her abilities.

Twin Bite - Reduces the cooldown by 0.5 seconds.
Burnout - Extends the duration by 1 second to a maximum of 6 seconds.
Flame Breath - Deals 15% of the ability's damage to debuffed targets.
Dragon's Descent - Attacks generate 2 Fury and Shyvana gains 1 Fury every 1.5 seconds while in human form.

Explanation:

This is why you have attack speed. The effect on burnout is very useful for jungle and is why you don't need CDR. When auto attacking the cooldown becomes less than the duration.

[skills/shyvana/q.png] Q: Twin Bite

Next auto attack hits twice, second hit deals 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100 % of total attack damage
Dragon Form: second hit deals aoe damage in front of her

Dragon Form: Twin Bite cleaves all units in front Shyvana.

Cooldown 10/9/8/7/6 seconds

Explanation:

Similar to trundles bite. This will proc phage and wriggles. I level this second.

[skills/shyvana/w.png] W: Burnout

Shyvana deals 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 (+20% of bonus attack damage) magic damage per second to nearby enemies and moves 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 % faster for 3 seconds. Shyvana's Movement Speed bonus is reduced over time.

Dragon Form: Burnout scorches the earth, continuing to damage enemies that stand on it.

Cooldown 12 seconds

Explanation:

This is why you dominate. Constant AOE damage along with a movement speed boost. You can chase down anyone and slowly kill them. This is amazing for team fights along with your sunfire cape you are dealing constant damage.

[skills/shyvana/e.png] E: Flame Breath

Shyvana unleashes a fireball that deals 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+60% of ability power) magic damage and burns 15% of their armor for 4 seconds.

Dragon Form: Flame Breath engulfs all units in a cone in front of her.

Cooldown 12/11/10/9/8 seconds

Explanation:

Scales with AP and is only really nice for the AOE effect in dragon, or the armor debuff.

[skills/shyvana/r.png] R: Dragon's Descent

Active: Shyvana transforms into a dragon and takes flight to a target location. Enemies along her path take 200 / 300 / 400 (+70% of ability power) magic damage and are knocked toward her target location.

Passive: Shyvana reinforces her scales, increasing her Armor and Magic Resist by 15/20/25. Defensive bonuses are doubled in Dragon Form.

Cost 6 fury a second and max fury to activate

Explanation:

Your Flash escape. This will make you more tanky as it gives armor. The knock back isnt that significant unless you're interrupting a fiddle or nunu ult. Positioning is key. Get behind and knock them towards your team. This makes all your abilities AOE, kick some ass with this.

Mres: 108
Lifesteal: 43%
MS: 395

Slow by 40%

Cost 13555 Gold

The second build has more AD and Crit. The first build offers more movement speed, more burst with the Triforce, more AS.

Honestly comparing the numbers they are both very viable. I have played games as both and seem to prefer the burst of the 1st build.

Jungling
Red/Blue : 5 Min Respawn
Dragon : 6 Min Respawn
Baron : 7 Min Respawn

  • Start with [items/cloth-armor.png][items/health-potion5.png]
  • Kill Double Golems, [summoners/smite.png] one and kill it immediately.

You should hit level 2, take your Q

  • Kill Wraiths, big one first. Use your Q
  • Wolves, use your W to get to camps faster, Level W
  • Once you have 450+ HP, kill Blue Golem [summoners/smite.png]

Return to base and buy [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion2.png]

  • Double Golems, Level E
  • Kill Red Lizard [summoners/smite.png] Land your E on him!

Look for gank opportunities now that you have a slow.

  • Wraiths
  • Wolves

Return to base, if you successfull ganked you will have enough for [items/madreds-razors.png] if not, [items/vampiric-scepter.png]

  • Double Golem
  • Wraiths
  • Wolves

At this point you may be 2-3 minions away from 6 if you didn't pass through a lane or gank.

Your Blue should spawn around 8:00 min
Your Red should spawn around 9:20 min

Use [items/health-potion.png] as needed throughout this route. Again, always look for opportunities to gank once you have red.

At this point continue to clear the jungle, Once you have [items/wriggles-lantern.png] you can solo dragon. Dragon control is important, keep in mind when it spawns.

[items/cloth-armor.png][items/health-potion5.png]->[items/boots-of-speed.png]->[items/vampiric-scepter.png]->[items/wriggles-lantern.png]->[items/phage.png]-> [items/mercurys-treads.png]->[items/wits-end.png]->[items/sunfire-cape.png]-> [items/trinity-force.png]->[items/the-bloodthirster.png] OR [items/force-of-nature.png]

Early Game
Early game is quite simple for Shyvana, focus on jungling until around lvl 6. When you reach that lvl you can think about harassing a bit with burnout and twin bite. DO NOT over commit with this, unless you're doing a TON of damage and they're around one bar of health. Remember, you're trying to harass them, zone them out, stop them from farming. Never go for a kill unless you're sure you'll deal the right amount of damage and have an escape plan.

But still, main focus of Shyvana in this phase is to farm the jungle and look for gank opportunities, so don't over do it with your harassment. And once you hit around 1200 gold, teleport back and finish off your boots and get a ruby crystal

Mid Game
Mid game starts when you hit lvl 6. Start working on your phage and looking for gank or counter jungleing opportunities.

Look at the map and see which lanes needed a gank. If you think that they're doing alright, head back to the jungle. But if you see a lane in need of help, go there and help. Remember, your ultimate is one of the best ganking abilities in game.

Remember to look at your gold. When you have enough for your next item go buy it, expect that you'll be doing a ton more damage and will be able to survive for quite a long time in team fights. Once you have your wriggles DO DRAGON!

Late Game
Late game starts when you've finished building your damage items, meaning you probably have all your core items. Usually for me, I never get to this point very often as my games usually finish when i get my trinity force (yes, trinity force is that big of a boost for Shyvana).

But if you do reach this phase, then start looking at your opponents team and see what they have, meaning their items. If you've done well in your early and mid game, then your opponent shouldn't have too much strong items. If they do consider breaking from the build and countering their carries.

Team Fights
You're role in the major late game team fights is to disrupt the enemy team with your ultimate (dragon's descent). NEVER engage with this ability, always let your tank do it. Only use Dragon's descent when your whole team has engaged. By doing this, you'll be able to disrupt your enemy when it matters most. Also, try to use your ultimate ability over walls as this will get your enemies on their toes. A successful ult means a successful battle, so try to use it properly as every battle in late game can decide if you win or not.

Agree with below. You will need a lot more depth to become approved, although you do have the right types of sections.

maybe add a section when to pick her and when not; also consider updating your guide if you want to get it approved (masteries)

i got completely defferend build and it works aswell. shyvana as the creators of the game said she needs AS so Madred's Bloodrazor is more importand pluss it gives the max ammount of dmg that shyvana can do.
instead of trinity phadom dancer atatck speed critical and increase the dmg rate. force of nature and thornmale are enought to tank Till the late game boots for attack speed ofc, main for shyvana. and my last item is between bloodthirst or frozen malet (lifesteal or slow)

I honestly like going atma/mallet over trinity.

Trinity is just so expensive and it doesn't make u tanky at all so by the time u get it u might die real fast in teamfights to enemies with same farm. Also its slow is unreliable and easy kills might get away from u if it doesn't proc

Trinity is actually not a really good item. Basicallt this happens because nearly the whole Sheen effect is wasted (Q Proccs it only once and apart from that your spell cooldowns are pretty high), Crit is such a small amount it really low and it will hardly make a difference.

Attack Speed is good, but definetly overatted in shyvana, getting more than your runes and Wits End is an overkill, the difference on your Q cooldown or the extra dragon duration will be at best 1 second, mabye less.

Movement Speed is definetly nice, but TriForce isnt the only item to give MS, you can get this from other sources too.

Basically, the only part of this item that is beeing fully utilised is the Phage, and you pay 4k gold to utilise about 2k of it, if not less.

I've gone an Atmogs build. But honestly I've only done it when I'm getting really fed. The money you have to sink in, and the farm needed to get it effective sometimes isnt worth it if youre just doing subpar in a game. Again I think it's all situational.

I'm curious what people think to Warmog/Atmas VS Sunfire/Trinity?
  • GOODJOB!!

@fixate, its also good for team fight as the empowered version does lots more aoe. Fyi, if you are in range for twin bite, you are in range for Flame breath. just a pointer.
Honestly, just say that it's your personal preference. I find that Flame Breath is much more powerful, especially considering that it also has burst damage.
